Places to Enjoy for Free

Be civilised and enjoy afternoon tea in one of the beautiful country house hotels like Cannizaro House Hotel in Wimbledon or the Petersham in Richmond

Some of the best museums are also free. Learn about the history of aviation in London's original international airport - Croydon Airport Visitor Centre, or check out Bromley Museum, the H.G. Wells Collection in Bromley, or Shirley Windmill in Croydon.

A stroll in the park costs you nothing, except perhaps a pair of worn out legs. Richmond Park is probably the best known, or you could try High Elms Country Park in Bromley, Bushy Park in Kingston, or Home Park in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace.

Parks and open spaces are also great for having a picnic with your friends, flying a kite with children, having a kickaround or game of rounders, or just communing with nature.

Walking is one of the best ways to discover south London, so put on your comfiest shoes and bring your friends along. Try the the Thames Path along the river, the Green Chain walk, and the Wandle Trail, or check out some other suggested walking routes.

When was the last time you went on a bike ride_ It's quicker than walking and you get to see more along the way. Make up your own route and explore the Rivers Thames and Wandle, or Richmond Park. Or you can get free route maps and ideas from Transport for London.
