Two of London's best comedy venues are the Banana Cabaret at the Bedford in Balham, and Jongleurs Battersea. Make sure you take your corset...

Experiment and find something different at smaller arts and performance venues - Battersea Arts Centre, Pump House Gallery, Charles Cryer Studio Theatre, Orange Tree Theatre, Croydon Clocktower, Stanley Picker Gallery, Orleans House Gallery, Bromley Little Theatre, Putney Arts Theatre.

For bigger theatre productions and mainstream performances, including panto, try Fairfield Halls in Croydon, and Wimbledon Theatre.

Go classical with one of the area's resident music groups - London Mozart Players, or the Richmond-based Cantanti Camerati Choir.

Have a quiet drink, dinner with friends or a big night out in one of the larger town centres - Richmond, Putney, Clapham, Kingston, Balham, Croydon, Sutton, or Wimbledon for quality restaurants, classy bars, cosy pubs, comedy, and dancing ëtil you drop.

Sports fans won't know where to start (or stopÖ.) ñ Twickenham for England and Harlequins rugby, Wimbledon All England Tennis Club, Crystal Palace and Fulham Football Clubs, the ACP Oval Cricket Ground for county and international cricket, Sandown and Kempton Park Race Courses and the world famous Epsom Racecourse (home of the Derby).

Alternatively if you want to play sport there's the Sutton Junior Tennis Centre (the UK's No.1 tennis coaching centre), acres of golf courses, sports centres and swimming pools including the outdoor Tooting Bec Lido.

Catch the latest film release at one of the area's many cinemas. Some of the quirkier ones include the art deco Beckenham Odeon, Clapham Picture House, and the Brixton Ritzy.
